Smart Building – Definition and Examples

A smart building uses modern technology to add value to its owners, operators and tenants.

Here are some examples:

  • Firstly cloud based building management solutions (BMS) aggregating major building functionality
  • Secondly IoT connected sensors supporting smart access, lighting, heating and shading
  • Thirdly collaboration solutions enabling flexible booking of desks or meeting rooms.
  • Finally predictive and remote maintenance of the main components of the building

However there are many more use cases like smart parking solutions. In addition often charging stations for Electrical Vehicles (EVs) are included. Finally often energy generated and stored by Photovoltaic (PV) systems is used.
